DivShare, again I give you the thumb-down

2 hours back, I received an email from DivShare. So I thought: What does it want again?

I adopted a cautious attitude as I read the first paragraph of the email which I have pasted below for your reference. As I was reading, I thought: Okay.. at least it is not closing down so... phew! But as I read on... duh!!!

In the end, what's happening is that DivShare is moving from free unlimited storage - one of their taglines - to just a pathetic 5 GB. C'mon DivShare, I thought you can't do worse but you keep surprising me. Way to go lol!

The email:

Thanks for being a part of DivShare. This week, we'll be announcing a number of changes and new features that will help make DivShare a faster, more reliable home for your documents and media. You may already have noticed faster uploads and downloads over the past few days, and that's just beginning of our upgrades. As part of this effort, we are also changing the storage and bandwidth allowances on member accounts.

Starting January 24, free accounts will receive 5 GB of storage space and 50 GB of downloads per month. Premium users will be able to upgrade to up to 10 times that amount for less than a dollar a day. This change won't affect any files that are currently in your account. If you are over the 5 GB limit, no files will be deleted or disabled. However, you won't be able to upload new files unless you free up space in your account.

We've carefully set up our new accounts so that very few users will be affected -- in fact, 99% of members are under the free storage limit, and 90% are under the bandwidth limit. If you do need to upgrade, however, you'll automatically get a free month of whichever plan you choose. You can check out the options at www.divshare.com/members/upgrade.

If you have any questions about the transition, just drop us an e-mail at support@divshare.com. You can also check out the full blog post at http://blog.divshare.com/2008/01/17/big-updates-from-divshare/ .

We'll have more announcements about upgrades, new features and new partnerships in the coming weeks, so stay tuned to the blog. Have a great day,

The DivShare Team
