DivShare, again I give you the thumb-down

2 hours back, I received an email from DivShare. So I thought: What does it want again?

I adopted a cautious attitude as I read the first paragraph of the email which I have pasted below for your reference. As I was reading, I thought: Okay.. at least it is not closing down so... phew! But as I read on... duh!!!

In the end, what's happening is that DivShare is moving from free unlimited storage - one of their taglines - to just a pathetic 5 GB. C'mon DivShare, I thought you can't do worse but you keep surprising me. Way to go lol!

The email:

Thanks for being a part of DivShare. This week, we'll be announcing a number of changes and new features that will help make DivShare a faster, more reliable home for your documents and media. You may already have noticed faster uploads and downloads over the past few days, and that's just beginning of our upgrades. As part of this effort, we are also changing the storage and bandwidth allowances on member accounts.

Starting January 24, free accounts will receive 5 GB of storage space and 50 GB of downloads per month. Premium users will be able to upgrade to up to 10 times that amount for less than a dollar a day. This change won't affect any files that are currently in your account. If you are over the 5 GB limit, no files will be deleted or disabled. However, you won't be able to upload new files unless you free up space in your account.

We've carefully set up our new accounts so that very few users will be affected -- in fact, 99% of members are under the free storage limit, and 90% are under the bandwidth limit. If you do need to upgrade, however, you'll automatically get a free month of whichever plan you choose. You can check out the options at www.divshare.com/members/upgrade.

If you have any questions about the transition, just drop us an e-mail at support@divshare.com. You can also check out the full blog post at http://blog.divshare.com/2008/01/17/big-updates-from-divshare/ .

We'll have more announcements about upgrades, new features and new partnerships in the coming weeks, so stay tuned to the blog. Have a great day,

The DivShare Team

Marketing with Text Messages ? Well, what did you expect?

Cell phones are everywhere ? in the U.S. alone there are over 220 million subscribers. Many of us have canned the old land line phone because cells are with us all the time and have an enormous array of capabilities. One of the most used capabilities is text messaging, and because of that businesses would like to market to you through text messaging. Let?s see what you think about that.

Invest, Save, Spend ... Who Knows?

We get income and it seems to go to someone really fast. Do we have savings or investment goals, like paying to send a child to school, buying a house, a car, an iPhone, a new wardrobe, funding a wedding, a vacation, etc.? Do the goals keep us on track or are they just like well intentioned New Year resolutions?

Movies Outside the Movie Theater

There are a gazillion movies released each year and we just can't see all of them in a theater, but fortunately they are many outlets for after the movie theater run.

Transfer of Wealth - Baby Boomers to their Children

So, here's the idea: Baby Boomers are becoming the old farts and eventually their wills must be executed -- face it folks, it's Mother Nature at work. Regardless of your generation, children may benefit as a transfer of wealth takes place. This is a follow up to the "Invest, Save, Spend ... Who Knows?" survey.

And let's be clear about the purpose of this survey ... it's a survey, no one is going to contact you or sell you something because of your answers ... and because it's a Social Survey, we hope that your answers generate conversation within your social network.

Green Heating - 3

Consider that roughly two-thirds of a home's annual energy use goes toward space and water heating, that in most American homes, winter heating is responsible for sending nearly four tons of greenhouse gases into the air each month, and that as much as half of all the energy used in the home is wasted.
